The Philippine National Police (PNP) has refuted claims by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), of a conspiracy with the United States to target him for rendition.
At a press briefing on Thursday in Camp Crame, Quezon City, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo emphasized the absence of any intelligence supporting Quiboloy’s allegations of a joint US-Philippine effort to apprehend him through rendition—a process where a fugitive is handed over by one country to another facing criminal charges.
Fajardo clarified that the PNP had not been informed of any specific threats to Quiboloy’s safety. However, he assured that the PNP is always prepared to offer protection to any individual, including Quiboloy, should there be a legitimate concern for their security and upon their request.
The controversy stems from an audio statement released by Quiboloy, in which he accused both governments of plotting his elimination, citing unnamed reliable sources.
These allegations come in the wake of Quiboloy facing serious charges in the United States, including conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking, sex trafficking of children, and bulk cash smuggling. A federal arrest warrant was issued for him on November 10, 2021, by a grand jury in Santa Ana, California.
Additionally, Col. Fajardo mentioned the PNP’s readiness to cooperate with the Philippine Congress should assistance be needed in serving a subpoena to Quiboloy.
This is in light of both the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality and the House of Representatives seeking Quiboloy’s testimony in relation to alleged abuses within his religious group and potential franchise violations by Swara Sug Media Corporation, which operates Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI).
As the situation unfolds, the PNP’s stance remains clear: there is no verified threat against Quiboloy from the authorities, and they stand ready to provide aid within the bounds of the law. – PhilippinesToday.ph
